What are the limits of most part of reverse logistics companies?
I was speaking in past with a friend of mine about a project with super enthusiasm, and he told me as per answer “Mik, they already invented coke, and Nutella as well” . Are past more than 25 years from that, but anytime im reading about a project , think about my friend’s answer.
I’ve started unusually, this post today, with a personal thought , because i want introduce,shortly, my new project called “Pick-up & Refurb” , but at the same time i want speak about the limit of some Reverse Logistics companies focus on electronics or non food.
a short premise, this is my personal point of view. I’ve max respect of all reverse logistics companies, and i think their job as mandatory, basical for all companies have in mind to evolve in circular economy.
The question is: ” reverse logistic, but then? ”
Most part of my follower are in supply chain, and have perfect idea about reverse logistic flows.
I simplify in large terms. Returns are collected, via end user or in shops or others instrument, parcelized, managed, checked, sent in storage or to the manufacturer directly.
Great . All carrier companies makes this, DHL, Fedex and so on. The war between reverse logistics companies it’s all in services quality and prices, because more or less services are all the same, or better “have to be” all the same because the flows are the same. but then?
Then the products follows different road-maps, some of them are scrapped, going to weee, sold per kilo, often sold to traders without any “brand protection” policy; so basically products surfing in a deep ocean of sharks, where costs saved risks to be lost, and this is, from my point of view, the bottleneck .
What is new in “Pick-up & Refurb” ?
Simply , the project it’s realistically a “Closed-loop” Supply Chain circular economy instrument .
We collect and manage returns, in all possible cases, directly end-user-home, shops, returns logistic and so on. THEN, in our logistic we check them, categorize, identify all single item with UID code, palletize it and after we’ve sent all technical data to the client are sent to our refurbishment centers , where the products are repaired and refurbished according client specifications.
THEN, when the process is completed, only 100% working products, certified refurbished, tested and graded , are sent back to the client or sold in our markets Extra EU or EU, according agreement with the client.
Not working products, are cannibalized for spare parts, or sent to weee, according european laws, with valid EU certification.
All process data about repairing, defects, serial defectiveness, quality, grading and so on are shared and sent to the client which is completely in knowledge about on every single step, operator, process of his products in real time thanks to the UID code.
A new lifecycle, less electronic waste, realistic saving cost actions, less CO2 impact ( we cut a logistic step at the beginning )
This is ( my point of view ) the real Supply chain “Closed Loop” , this is for me what means circular economy , in few words THEN? We can.
